The Song That Changed My Life, Vol. 1
Last night I was talking with a friend about music and how it shaped us as a person and influenced us completely.
Music is more than just a sweet melody with a few good hooks. There's story telling, pure and raw emotion with a taste of honesty. And now I'm here to let you in my life and share songs that either helped me through a tough time or brought pure euphoria.
When I was in grade school, I wasn't the most popular kid in school. I was a short, guitar playing, baseball player with redhair and blonde highlight running through the front. At that age I always fantasized about finding that special someone who would like me just for being me. I was a slight loner with only two friends; Duncan Watkins and Sam Farhart. Girls were the only thing we talked about, we may have been obsessed, but who cares.
I went to my uncles house for Thanksgiving, probably 2004 or 2005. I have a cousin who I always looked up to, her name is Molly. She was a punker with an awesome taste of music. That thanksgiving she introduced me to "Hey Jealousy" by Gin Blossom. The guitar, the drums and the lyrics hit me like a semi truck. This song symbolizes my hopeless romantic youth in everyway possible.
"Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found
To take its place."
