Tuscaloosa youth will be able to kick off the Halloween holiday a few days early with tons of candy and STEM learning opportunities at the 6th annual "Tech or Treat" event on October 25.

The free event is put on by the city of Tuscaloosa and allows children to visit tables and collect candy while being introduced to science, technology, engineering and math opportunities inside City departments and community organizations.

The event will be held at the Gateway Innovation and Discovery Center in Alberta City at 2614 University Boulevard East from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The event will also feature four Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa radio stations -- 92.9 WTUG, 105.1 the Block, 95.3 the Bear and Alt 101.7.

Mayor Walt Maddox said in a press release the Tech or Treat is one of the city's favorite annual family events and is a great way to involve all members of the community in the engagement and development of the city's children.

"It’s a great way to encourage STEM learning, introduce children and families to the free resources available at the Gateway and involve local businesses and community partners," Maddox said.

Children must be accompanied by an adult to attend and participate in the event, which is open to youth of all ages.

According to the release, booth spaces are still open for organizations interested in participating, who can register by clicking here.
