With the Fifth pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa is the first Alabama player selected in this year's draft and becomes the first Alabama quarterback selected in the first round since Richard Todd in 1976.

The Dolphins went on a year-long mission to "Tank for Tua" and in the end they got their man. Despite smoke screens about Tagovailoa's health and questions about his durability the Alabama quarterback was still drafted very highly.

He was the second quarterback drafted after the Cincinnati Bengals drafted Joe Burrow out of LSU with the first pick overall. Tagovailoa will now join a team that went 5-11 last season and finished last in the AFC East. He will throw to DeVante Parker as his primary target. The remainder of this draft for the Dolphins will be about acquiring protection on the offensive line and skill position assets to make Tagovailoa's career successful.

The Dolphins already have Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen in their quarterback room. Fitzpatrick is in the second-year of a two-year contract and Rosen is beginning his third year in the NFL after being traded from the Arizona Cardinals to the Dolphins in last year's offseason. Tagovailoa will compete with Fitzpatrick and Rosen to be the week one starter in 2020.

Tagovailoa completed 474 passes for 7,442 yards and 87 touchdowns in his career at The Capstone. He won one national championship and was named SEC Offensive Player of the year in 2018. Last year's fifth overall pick, Devin White, signed a four-year $29,300,000 contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tagovailoa's contract will be similar this season for the Dolphins.
