Stay Aware: Severe Weather is Likely Across Alabama on Tuesday
Alabamians should stay weather aware in preparation for an active weather day on Tuesday, October 25. This system is a tad bit in advance of our typical fall and spring severe weather season which runs from November through May.
Now is a great time to have an understanding of what county you live in, where within that county (for example the southeast corner), make sure you have several ways of receiving weather warnings and have a safety plan in place for home and at work. It might be a good idea to review school safety plans with your kids as well.
Storm Prediction Center Risk Areas
The Storm Prediction Center has a good portion of Alabama under a "slight risk" (level 2/5). This includes all of Townsquare Media’s radio station’s collective coverage areas which include these counties:

The rest of the state is inside a "marginal risk" (level 1/5) for the rest of the state.

Timeline
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist has provided more insight on the timing of the severe weather system and said that the “main window for strong to severe thunderstorms is from around 1:00 until 10:00 p.m. Higher severe weather probabilities are over the western half of the state; storms should weaken over East Alabama tomorrow night in a more stable airmass there.”
Probable Threats
"Storms tomorrow afternoon and evening will be capable of producing large hail and strong winds. A few tornadoes are possible over the western half of the state, in the level 2 risk area,” said Spann.
Townsquare Media staff is watching this storm system closely. We are prepared to bring you necessary updates and even nonstop weather coverage if a tornado warning is issued for any county under our coverage area.
