When I was a kid, my brother and I watched what my parents watched. We didn't have a TV in every room to go watch something else. We didn't have a VCR in another room to pop in a movie and, when you grow up in a town with less than 500 people, going to the movies was a family event and a rarity. Of course, mom and dad didn't pick the latest animated show released. So, we watched what they wanted to watch. And you liked it. The first movie I remember seeing in the theaters was when I was 4 years old - Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. (I'm still a little phobic about the possibility of an earwig burrowing in my ear). When I was 5, I went to the movies and saw another one that I've never forgotten. The Return of the Jedi.

I'd seen Star Wars, and I'd seen The Empire Strikes Back. My brother had a ton of Star Wars action figures that he was constantly telling me I wasn't allowed to play with, and I may or may not have snuck into his room a time or two while he was at school to fly the Millennium Falcon and save the galaxy. But I was too young to see them at the theater and I was so excited that I was getting to see Return of the Jedi. A certain chill comes over you when you hear the score and see the those words start scrolling up the screen in the theater.

Now, *cough* thirty some *cough* years later, I get to take my son and have him experience the same things. He, like his mom, is a Star Wars nerd. He has seen all the movies, and he's even fought Darth Vader at the Jedi Training Academy at Disneyworld. Such a proud mom moment.

When Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens, he will get to experience his first Star Wars movie in the theater. The electric feeling when the lights dim and the music begins. The thrill of watching an epic light saber battle. A moment that we will share and *I hope* he will remember forever. I can't wait.

To pass the time before the movie comes out, we're putting on the May the Course be with You 5K at Griffin Farms Pumpkin Patch. So, on December 5th - come out and join us! Dressing in costume can win you some prizes, like movie tickets to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It's going to be a great time, and when else can you dress up in Star Wars gear? The race begins at 9am with registration at 8am. The first 100 registered runners will receive the official May the Course be with You shirt. A portion of the proceeds will be used for donations to the Toys for Miners program. So come out, have fun and run for a good cause! You can purchase your tickets here
