Watch the First Ten Minutes of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’
Spider-Man: Homecoming arrives on Digital HD this week (the Blu-ray and DVD will be available on October 17) and to mark the occasion (and hopefully convince you to buy it) Sony has put the film’s memorable opening sequence online. If you missed it in theaters, or you just want to rewatch the first couple minutes, it’s now available for your viewing pleasure. You’ll see the events of Captain America: Civil War from the perspective of the new Peter Parker (Tom Holland). You will also meet Michael Keaton’s Vulture, as he tries to turn the Battle of New York from The Avengers into a massive business opportunity.
I loved this opening; it seemed like the perfect update for Peter’s decades-old gig as a photographer for the Daily Bugle. And, in that way, it’s a nice summation of everything that’s good about Homecoming. And Keaton’s Vulture was such a rich character. Here’s the film’s official plot synopsis:
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
The Spider-Man: Homecoming Blu-ray includes deleted scenes, a gag reel, seven featurettes and a “Spidey Study Guide,” among other special features.
