SEC Softball Breakdown: Where Everyone Stands
With only one weekend left in the regular season, the 24-game SEC softball slate comes to a close on Sunday and Alabama currently sits in second place with a 14-7 conference record.
What team is in first?
The Arkansas Razorbacks earned at least a share of the SEC regular-season championship this past weekend and currently sit three games ahead of Alabama in first place with a 17-4 record.
The Razorbacks have been dominating this past season, winning every SEC series so far, including three sweeps. In SEC Play, the Razorbacks lead the conference in batting with a .324 average and in pitching with a 2.71 era. Arkansas ends the season on the road against a Texas A&M team that currently sits in twelfth place in the SEC.
Rounding out the top four are Tennessee (12-8) and Missouri (11-9) at third and fourth, respectively. The top four teams will earn double-byes in the SEC Tournament which makes the upcoming Alabama-Missouri series very crucial for both teams.
Florida sits in fifth place with a 13-11 record. The Gators are the only team that finished conference play due to the odd number of teams in the SEC. The Gators will return home to host the SEC Tournament next week.
The next part of the standings feature a four-way tie between Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, and LSU with identical 11-10 records.
Ole Miss (10-11), Mississippi State (9-12), Texas A&M (5-16), and South Carolina (2-19) round out the bottom of the standings.
Alabama is coming off a much needed break after dropping its last conference series to Texas A&M.
The Missouri Tigers enter Rhoads stadium on a seven-game win-streak including back-to-back SEC series sweeps coming against Kentucky and Texas A&M. A series win for the Tide secures the No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament.
The SEC Tournament will take place from May 10-14 in Gainesville, Fla.`
