Scott Cochran Leaves Alabama

Scott Cochran is leaving Alabama to join the University of Georgia coaching staff according to Cecil Hurt. Cochran was an original member of the Nick Saban coaching staff at Alabama, assuming the role of head strength and conditioning coach since 2007. Cochran is the architect of the Tide’s offseason spring training routine known as the “Fourth Quarter Program.” He will fill Georgia’s last remaining on-field coaching position, becoming the Bulldog’s Special Teams Coordinator.

Cochran often was responsible for having the special team’s scout teams lined up at Alabama practices and will use that experience to run the special teams for the Georgia Bulldogs. Cochran had been with Nick Saban for each of his six national championship seasons including the 2003 LSU BCS national championship.

Cochran was named the Samson Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year for the 2008 and 2011 football seasons. He oversaw massive renovations to the weight room in the Mal Moore Athletic Facility during his time at Alabama and currently the Tide boasts some of the best facilities in the nation.

He joins longtime friend Kirby Smart at Georgia having a relationship dating back to 2004 working at LSU together. It was widely speculated that Smart tried to lure Cochran to Athens in 2016 when he was hired by the Bulldogs but Cochran stayed with the Tide. The lure of an on-field coaching role was too much to overcome this time around.
