Reichard More Nervous in Proposal Than Pressure Kicks
Since coming out of Hoover High School in 2019, Alabama kicker Will Reichard has proven to be one of the most accurate and calm under pressure at the position in program history.
Reichard is one of just two Alabama kickers all-time to have a perfect field goal percentage for a season, but recently he revealed something in his life that was much more nerve-wracking, according to him, than kicking on some of the sport's greatest stages.
In January of 2022, Reichard got engaged to his longtime girlfriend who he met in high school while preparing for the University of Alabama.
He talked about the stressful situation at a player availability this week and said, "Honestly, I was pretty nervous proposing."
"I knew she was going to say ‘Yes’ and she knew it was coming, but still I’d never faced anything that nervous before."
Kickers in the NFL and high-level college programs face some remarkably high standards and find themselves in pressure-packed situations all the time. However, even competing in front of millions on the national stage apparently doesn't seem to compare to the pressure some face when popping the question.
Reichard's current 81.6 percent completion rate for field goals leads the metric on Alabama's all-time leaderboard. In 2021, Reichard led the SEC in total points scored and made an integral overtime field goal in Alabama's road win over Auburn to keep the game alive.
