Investigators with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit have arrested the brother of the 23-year-old who was shot and killed at the Marathon gas station on James I Harrison and Greensboro Avenue Saturday night.

Jack Kennedy, the commander of the VCU, said police have collected physical evidence, interviewed many witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage and determined that Laquavius Leon Pearson, 23, was shot and killed by his brother Joshua Marquise Pearson in what appears to be a tragic accident.

Kennedy said police believe Joshua Pearson, 22, discharged a firearm recklessly and the bullet struck his brother Laquavius, killing him.

The younger Pearson was arrested Wednesday and charged with reckless murder. He remained there at the time of publication awaiting a $100,000 bond.
