Police in Tuscaloosa charged three men with capital murder Tuesday in connection to the double shooting that left one man dead and another in critical condition last week.

Kip Hart, the assistant commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said after interviewing witnesses and recovering evidence from the scene of the shooting, investigators were able to develop three suspects: 24-year-old Milton Prentice of Tuscaloosa, 20-year-old Bryan Groom and 20- year-old Dexter Cunningham, II, who are both from Birmingham.

Hart said police believe the three men had planned to rob a man at 1909 29th Avenue, but something went wrong and shots were fired.

32-year-old Jarvis Hudson was killed in the shooting, and another man, 34, remains in critical condition at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Hart said Prentice, Groom and Cunningham have all admitted to their involvement in the robbery and been charged with capital murder.

They are being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, and the capital charges mean they cannot bond out of jail before their trial. If found guilty, the men could have the death penalty.

Groom and Cunningham are also charged with the attempted murder of the 34-year-old victim and Hart said additional charges may be filed against all three men.
