Alt 101.7 and Pepsi have teamed up to present Metal Monday! This week we're featuring Sweden's Ghost!

Formed in Linköping, Sweden in 2006, Ghost has been nominated for three Grammy Awards, winning the Grammy for Best Metal Performance for the song Circle in 2016.

Ghost is easily recognizable due to its eccentric on-stage presence. Seven of the group's eight members, called 'Nameless Ghouls', wear identical, face-concealing costumes. The band's front man, Tobias Forge, is known on-stage as Papa Emeritus and has gone through five incarnations - I, II, III, Nihil, and IV. Since 2018, Forge has  portrayed a character known as Cardinal Copia with Papa Emeritus re-appearing in 2020.

As the story goes, when band leader Tobias Forge wrote the song "Stand By Him," he said,

I said that this is probably the most heavy metal riff that has ever existed. When the chorus came to me, it haunted my dreams. Every time I picked up the guitar, I ended up playing that progression.

Ghost released their first studio album, Opus Eponymous, on October 18, 2010 and started as the opening act for Mastodon and Opeth on the Heritage Hunter Tour as well as a string of supporting spots with Trivium, Paradise Lost, Rise to Remain, and In Flames.

They entered the studio in October of 2012 to record their second album Infestissumam in Nashville. That record was followed by Meliora in August of 2015 and Prequelle in 2018.
