Patrick Surtain goes No. 9 to the Denver Broncos. He is the second cornerback off the board in the 2021 NFL draft. Surtain II becomes the fifth cornerback and eighth defensive back under Nick Saban to be drafted in the first round.

Surtain II, a three-year starter at Alabama, started 38 consecutive games. As a freshman, he totaled 37 tackles, seven pass breakups, one interception and was named a Freshman All-American. In 2019, Surtain II registered 42 tackles, three forced fumbles, eight pass breakups, two interceptions and earned honorable mention All-American honors.

Last season, he totaled 38 tackles, 3.5 for loss, 12 pass breakup and one interception. He was targeted just 48 times all season and allowed only 21 completions for 273 yards. Surtain II was named a unanimous first team All-American and earned SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors. He was also a finalist for the Bednarik, Lott, Nagurski and Thorpe awards.

The Florida native is a long, physical corner standing at 6-foot-2 and 208 pounds. At Alabama's first pro day, Surtain II ran the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds, broad jumped 10 feet, 11 inches, vertical jumped 39 inches, and totaled 18 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Surtain II fills an immediate need for the Denver Broncos. They ranked25th in total defense and scoring defense He will join a  secondary that features Justin Simmons, Kareem Jackson, Bryce Callahan and Kyle Fuller.

Coming out of high school, Surtain II was a consensus five-star recruit and ranked as the top cornerback nationally by all major recruiting outlets. He was No. 5 player overall in the ESPN300 and the second-ranked player from the state of Florida.

His father, Patrick Surtain Sr. played 11 seasons in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs. He was a three-time Pro Bowl and two-time All-Pro selection. In his career, Surtain Sr. recorded 37 interceptions, seven forced fumbles and 7.5 sacks.
