UPDATE 8:25 p.m.: The NWS has canceled this tornado warning.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for parts of Pickens, Greene and Sumter County in West Alabama and any residents in the area need to seek shelter immediately.

The warning, prompted by radar-indicated rotation, predicts a dangerous tornado capable of carrying dangerous debris, destroying mobile homes, and severely damaging homes, trees and vehicles.

The active warning is in effect until 9 p.m.

Locations impacted include Union, Gainesville, Emelle, New West Greene, Mantua, Panola, Jena, West Greene, Knoxville, Benevola, Geiger, Snoddy, Warsaw, New Mount Hebron, Clinton, Pleasant Ridge, Pioneer and Lewiston.

Anyone in the path of this storm is urged to immediately seek shelter in a basement or an interior room in the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
