Northport Mayor: “If You Know Something Say Something”

Northport Mayor Bobby Herndon joined the Steve & DC Show Wednesday morning to make a strong plea in the wake of a drive-by shooting in his city Tuesday that left a 16-year-old girl dead.

The shooting is believed to have started at the Wendy's on McFarland Boulevard in Northport around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators believe the shooter, a 19-year-old male, was targeting the 20-year-old driver of a car in line at the Wendy's drive-through.

He allegedly fired several shots and injured the driver, but bullets also struck and killed 16-year-old Trinity Shannon, a passenger in the vehicle. A third person in the vehicle was not injured.

Hours after the shooting, police arrested 19-year-old Kenderius Sherman and charged him with capital murder and two counts of attempted murder.

On the morning show, Herndon said "this violence must stop," and pleaded with anyone who knows more about the shooting to come forward.

“If you know something, say something," Herndon said.

The mayor said witnesses who are worried about sharing what they know could call him directly and he would pass on their tips anonymously.

Herndon, who was in Washington DC to meet with US Senator Tommy Tuberville Wednesday morning, said he intended to meet with Shannon's family upon his return to Northport.

"It breaks my heart," Herndon said. "Being a dad and a granddad, like anybody else as a parent, this is something you never want to go through. It's senseless. It was just senseless and I want to go over there and spend some time with them and just see what we can do to get them through these tough times."
