Negan’s Grip Weakens in First ‘Walking Dead’ Season 8 Synopsis
There’s no lingering mystery The Walking Dead Season 8 needs to wallop with a baseball bat; just the “all out war” promised in our fall premiere’s new synopsis. Read for yourself, as Season 8 finally sees Rick ready to take the fight to Negan, along with a little help from his friends.
AMC released a first official synopsis for the eighth season, which itself celebrates the AMC drama’s 100th episode with the October 22 premiere. In it, Rick still finds himself outmatched by Negan and The Saviors (to say nothing of whatever side Jadis is on this week), but Season 8 is nonetheless looking like the “All Out War” of its comic namesake:
Feeling powerless under Negan’s rules and demands, Rick advocated the group play along. But seeing that Negan couldn’t be reasoned with, Rick began rallying together other communities affected by the Saviors. And with the support of the Hilltop and Kingdom, they finally have enough fire power to contest the Saviors.
This season, Rick brings “All Out War” to Negan and his forces. The Saviors are larger, better-equipped, and ruthless – but Rick and the unified communities are fighting for the promise of a brighter future. The battle lines are drawn as they launch into a kinetic, action-packed offensive.
Up until now, survival has been the focus of Rick and our group, but it’s not enough. They have to fight to take back their freedom so that they can live. So that they can rebuild. As with any battle, there will be losses. Casualties. But with Rick leading the Alexandrian forces, Maggie leading the Hilltop, and King Ezekiel leading the Kingdom – Negan and the Saviors’ grip on this world may finally be coming to an end.
Elsewhere of The Walking Dead Season 8, we know Steven Ogg, Katelyn Nacon and Pollyanna McIntosh have been elevated to series regulars in their roles as Negan’s man Simon, Alexandria survivor Enid and scavenger Jadis. It’s also possible Danai Gurira, Christian Serratos and Jeffrey Dean Morgan appear less in the first half, owing to Avengers: Infinity War, motherhood and Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage film, while the October premiere will also answer that mysterious “Old Man Rick” scene from the trailer.
We’ll see more soon, so stay tuned for the latest from The Walking Dead Season 8.
