Need A Job? There Is A Pay Increase For Substitutes In Tuscaloosa
Tuscaloosa County School system has been in need of more substitutes. They're hoping a recently approved pay increase will help solve the problem.
If you know someone who is in need of a job, they might want to consider becoming a substitute for TCSS. The Board of Education recently approved a temporary pay increase for substitutes teacher pay and LPN substitute pay. TCSS has had issues with sub retention and this may help solve the issue.
Currently, non-degreed teacher substitutes make $60 a day, and degreed teacher substitutes make $65 a day. Under the new temporary pay raise, as of March 1st, 2021, non-degreed teacher substitutes would make $80 a day, and degreed teacher substitutes make $90 a day.
Having substitutes is a major help towards making sure kids get the assistance and instruction needed. Lloyd Wood is a school within TCSS and they only have one substitute for the entire school. Charice Mayleen is a Therapist at Lloyd Wood and she spoke on the difficulties of only having one sub.
"Having one sub leaves children without adequate coverage in the classroom. In a typical classroom, there is a lead teacher and a PARA. Lloyd Wood is an alternative school so having both roles in the classroom helps to manage behaviors most effectively."
The new temporary pay raise will begin on March 1st, 2021. If you or anyone you know would like to apply to be a substitute for Tuscaloosa County School systems, click here.
