NCAA Tells Universities To Withdraw Athletes From Transfer Portal
The NCAA implemented restrictions on the transfer portal on August 31 essentially preventing athletes from entering the transfer portal in the middle of a season's competitive season.
The fall sports transfer portal was supposed to be closed in response to these rules, yet 19 Division I scholarship football players had entered the portal over the last two weeks.
According to Matt Zenitiz of On3Sports the NCAA has informed schools to withdraw those athletes out of the transfer portal. Additionally, Zenitz reports that schools have been told to cut off communication with fall sport student-athletes who have entered the portal in the last two weeks.
Zenitz reports that nine of the 19 Division I scholarship football players have already been withdrawn.
Fall athletes who wish to enter the transfer portal must wait until Dec. 5 to jump in and shop for a new school. The first window will be open for 45 days for players to evaluate their situations and decide if they want to leave. Fall athletes will have a second transfer portal opportunity from May 1-15.
