Ga'Quincy "Kool-Aid" McKinstry is most well known for being a five-star football recruit for Nick Saban, but he will also be helping out Alabama Men's basketball and coach Nate Oats.

The AL.com Birmingham Male Athlete of the Year for the 2019-2020 athletic season has been in Tuscaloosa.

McKinstry enrolled early this semester, but  has only been able to practice once with the basketball team due to his busy schedule.

He was on the bench and present in the teams huddle this past Saturday when the Crimson Tide beat Mississippi State 81-73, but didn't play any minutes.

As a senior at Pinson Valley, McKinstry averaged 15 points with an impressive 69 steals on the defensive side. Which isn't all that surprising considering he's a defensive ball hawk on the football field as well.

Oats spoke with Mike Rodak of AL.com discussing what the addition of McKinstry means to his team.

“Think of all the time he has missed. But we are glad to have him out there. The guys like him. I like having him around. He’s obviously a great athlete. Kind of brings that blue-collar toughness, gritty. He can probably give us some of that. We’ll have to see how he picks up the system and all that here.” said Oats.

Even though football will likely be top priority for McKinstry because that is what he was recruited for, expect him to be active for the No. 9 ranked hoops team in Coleman Coliseum as they push to make a deep run in the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament.
