Former University of Alabama running back Najee Harris made a guest appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show on Friday. Guest host Rob Lowe spoke with Harris about his excitement to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers and how he already has and future plans to give back to the underprivileged communities around him.

Harris talked about his post-draft celebration; Instead of going to the draft, he decided to give back to his hometown by spending time at the same homeless shelter he used to live in. "I felt the whole community of the Bay Area helped me get where I am today, so I decided to not go there (the NFL draft) and to have it in the Bay Area." Harris was born in Martinez, CA, on the east side of the Bay Area.

Harris also discussed his new foundation called "Da' Bigger Picture Foundation", a non-profit he recently started. According to his website, Da' Bigger Picture Foundation "focuses on assisting underserved families in reaching their potential and goals. The foundation's hope is to provide tools and assistance to families facing challenging times. Some of the key areas of focus will be education, homelessness, addressing hunger and utilizing sports as a platform to develop life skills". All proceeds from his merchandise goes back into different communities in need.

The advice that Harris gave to others in a similar situation was one he frequented. "It's a good saying that always helped me out is faith is seeing light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness," he says. "Even though you might not see the light in the tunnel, there are better things out there in the future." Harris was drafted No. 24 overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2021 NFL Draft.
