My Chemical Romance Members Reunite Every Year for a Barbecue
While we definitely miss My Chemical Romance's music, fans can take some comfort in knowing that all appears to be well amongst the band's members and their friendships remain intact. During a recent chat with Frank Iero, Seton O'Conner from the Dan Patrick Show discovered that the band's members actually meet up every year just to keep the lines of communication open and discuss business.
Iero's revelation was part of a bigger conversation dating back to the 2016 social media teaser for The Black Parade album that inadvertently had fans thinking that a reunion was imminent. When asked about that piece of marketing, Iero revealed, "We wanted to do a 10-year anniversary release of it, and we had some demos left over and some songs that didn’t make the record and we were like, ‘Oh, cool. We’ll put it all together.’ Every year, we meet and have a barbecue kind of thing. We’ll have the barbecue, kids will hang out and we’ll discuss business for the next year. And we were like, ‘Oh, that would be really cool. We should do a little teaser trailer for it. Alright, that’s what we’ll do.’ So, we told the lady what we wanted, and they made this trailer, and we released it. And all of a sudden we were like, ‘Oh, wait. Everyone’s real confused.’"
Iero continues, "Here's the thing. We were always like a theatrical band and we wanted to continue in that fashion, but when you're not a band any longer, it's probably harder to do that. We didn't realize." Watch more of the chat below.
Iero is moving forward with his new band, Frank Iero and the Patience, with plans to release a new album this year. Meanwhile, Iero's MCR bandmate Gerard Way issued some music late in 2018, including one song that featured My Chemical Romance's Ray Toro, and recently stated that a witch-inspired new track may be coming for 2019. Way has also had a hand in the Netflix adaptation of his comic series The Umbrella Academy.
