The night starts off with the flood of posts and tweets along the lines of making fun of MTV or Music Television and the Video Music Awards. The comments are always followed with… well, they don’t even play videos. I say, blah, blah, blah. It really isn’t that much about the awards, as it is about the performances and who will be the one to try and grab all the attention with an outrageous stunt.

Last night, Justin Timberlake brought not just the A game, the A+++ game. Amazing stuff!! As the performance went on, we all waited for the rumored N Sync reunion. Well, it happened. If you blinked, you probably missed it. Sure, we get that JT's performance was related to his solo career lifetime achievement award. But, maybe a few more seconds of that N Sync reunion was in order.

Miley Cyrus attempted to use a page of the Madonna book of shock to market yourself and stand out in the crowd. The whole twerk party on Red Bull thing was just awkward and the reaction today remains negative. The Miley party backfired. And, what was up with Robin Thicke’s black and white striped suit? I wonder if he will break out that ‘Beetlejuice’ look again for Halloween.

Lady Gaga and seashells, right. What was that from Katy Perry. Zzzz.

Finally, what seemed to be the lock of the night, ended up being my biggest shock of the night. The award category is ‘Song of the Summer.’ To me, there is no question Robin Thicke ‘Blurred Lines’ is that with an exclamation point! This song has been all over radio, topping multiple format charts, selling a ton of downloads… big song! Nope, One Direction ‘Best Song Ever’ wins. Really? Hmm… sounds like MTV trying to buy teenage loyalty stock with that pick. Either that or Robin Thicke is being penalized for channeling ‘Beetlejuice.’

Hey, maybe I’m wrong. Tell me in the poll below, who has the ‘Song of the Summer?’
