Miracle on 34th Street is the quintessential Christmas movie. I will never, ever tire of watching this tale of the importance of faith and love; it's been adored by four generations of our family so far, and it will continue to be a part of our holiday tradition for years to come.

If you've never seen Miracle on 34th Street, I'll give you a brief rundown of its plot: working single mom Doris is jaded and cynical until she hires a man named Kris Kringle to portray Saint Nick at Macy's flagship store on 34th Street in New York City. Kris ends up changing the lives of Doris, her daughter, Susan, their neighbor Fred, and everyone else he encounters... and all before Christmas Eve.

Favorite moments in Miracle on 34th Street: the drunken Santa who Kris Kringle gets fired, Kris' first day on the job at Macy's, the little Dutch girl who gets to visit and sing with Sintreklaas, Judge Harper's special mail delivery, Susan's Christmas present.

Miracle on 34th Street was remade in 1994, but to me, nothing is as good as the original. I'm getting a little bleary-eyed thinking about watching this movie with my Mom over the years. It truly is one of our favorite holiday traditions.

Next up on the countdown: there's snow place like home for the holidays...
