Mark Ingram Announces New Number

Former Crimson Tide running back and the program's first ever Heisman winner, Mark Ingram, announced he will wear No. 2 for his new team, the Houston Texans, with a twitter post this passed week. The former Alabama standout was cut by the Ravens in January after spending two years in Baltimore before signing a one-year $3 million deal with Houston. 

Ingram was drafted back in 2011 by the New Orleans Saints with the 28th overall pick and spent eight seasons in the Big Easy, making the Pro Bowl in 2014 and 2017 and rushing for over 1000 yards in two of his last three years. Despite solid performances in the years prior, 2018 saw Ingram take a back seat to Alvin Kamara who took the league by storm with his combination of pure running ability and excellent skills in the receiving game.

Ingram was traded to the Baltimore Ravens in 2019 and saw a brief resurgence in his career, rushing for over 1000 yards once again in the Ravens run heavy scheme and making the Pro Bowl. 2020 saw the ninth year back take a back seat yet again to a younger running back in J.K. Dobbins who took Ingram's spot after he was forced to miss time due to injury. Although the injury didn't linger and Ingram was reactivated just a few weeks later, Dobbins had secured his spot as the No. 1 option at running back for Baltimore.

Joining the Texans, Ingram enters a room already led by seventh-year running back David Johnson and will most likely be competing for a complementary role rather than a starting one. At 31 years old, while his starting days may be behind him, Ingram can definitely still provide solid depth at the position and will do so for the Texans.
