In a Wednesday afternoon tweet, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) announced that the football game between LSU and Florida is now postponed.

The Tigers were set to take on the Gators in Gainesville this Saturday. The postponement is due to a spike of coronavirus cases among the Florida football team and staff. It was not clearly indicated who in the program tested positive.

The teams are working within the SEC's COVID-19 contingency plans, which were outlined at the beginning of August and then were extended two weeks later.

"Our priority is the health and well-being of our student-athletes and staff," LSU Director of Athletics Scott Woodward said in a press release from the LSU athletics program. "The decision to reschedule the game comes as a result of close coordination and cooperation with the University of Florida and SEC officials and we are in full support. It is disappointing for everyone, but prudent. We wish all those at Florida who may be impacted the very best."

According to the tweet, the game will tentatively be rescheduled for Dec. 12 and will still be played in Gainseville, but that is subject to change.
