Let’s Help This Alabama Student Win ‘Doodle for Google!’
I am always excited to log on to www.google.com to see what Google has come up with for its name image. The expectation is that you will see something fun, quirky, motivating, empowering, holiday-related, or a statement. That’s pure genius.
Google is hosting a “Doodle for Google” contest where you can participate in the voting. The categories for voting are Grades K-3, Grades 4-5, Grades 6-7, Grades 8-9, and Grades 10-12. According to Doodle for Google, they want you to help them “pick the five State and Territory Winners who will go on to become one of our five National Finalists. All you have to do is click on a Doodle you like. From there, you can learn about the artist and cast your vote for each of the five grade groups. You can do this anytime between August 17th at 12:00 am PDT until August 21st at 11:59 pm PDT.”
While I was checking out all the doodles, I was thrilled to see Alabama is represented in the grades K-3 category. It was a great use of vibrant colors and a unique design called “Kindness Is Love.” The Alabama artist said that their inspiration for the doodle was from “a boy in my class who kids made fun of, and whose parents died in a car crash during Christmas break, made me a card that said I was the only one who showed him kindness all year.” Doesn’t that just make your heart drop?
Be sure to take time to support a young mind from Alabama in the “Doodle for Google” contest. Also, there are tons of inspiring doddles from other students in other states as well. According to Doodle for Google, “the National Winner’s artwork will be displayed on Google.com for one day. He or she will also receive a $30,000 college scholarship, a $50,000 technology package for their school/non-profit organization, Google hardware, and fun Googley swag.” I am sending the best of luck to the representative for Alabama, and thank you for showing kindness to your fellow classmate. We need more of that in our world.
