We're looking for a kitten, and my family needs your help!

I grew up in a house with two sisters, one brother, a dog, and a cat. Several years later, my mom moved to a big farmhouse, and we adopted five cats. My best friend has two cats. I've never had any problem getting along with felines, but I wouldn't exactly call myself a "cat person."

UNTIL NOW.

My daughter loves cats. She asks me every day: "Mommy, can we have a baby kitty?" I can usually distract her with a clip of kittens on YouTube. This was my plan, really--we'd just watch a kitty video and then we'd move on to another activity.

BUT THEN SOMETHING HAPPENED...

After watching a solid hour of kitten videos in the past month, I felt a twinge in my heart. I remembered being a little girl and holding our first kitten--a tabby named Nikita--and how much love I felt for her. I thought of the time my BFF found an abandoned Japanese Bobtail (she named her Milly) on the side of the road in Eastern Kentucky, how tiny and precious little Milly was, the way I'd hold her and let her fall asleep on my stomach. I thought of my BFF's other cat, an orange tabby named Marley, and what a total goob he is--how funny it is to watch him play.

YES, PEOPLE, I WANT A CAT.

I want to bring home a little kitten that can become a part of our family. I'm looking for a short-haired baby kitten; I'd be happy with a boy or girl. It's very important to us to adopt--I'm not cool with buying an animal.

I know our kitty will need food, a bed, litter box and litter, toys, treats, and medications (flea and tick prevention, etc.), but I am asking y'all to help me out: what items do I need to ensure our feline family member is happy and healthy?

Do you have any tips or advice? This ain't my first trip to the rodeo, but it has been about 10 years since I owned a cat. I don't know if there are some rad new toys or different types of food, so I've got a lot to learn.

Leave your advice or suggestions in the comments below--or send me an email. My address is meg at b1017online.com. Thanks for your help! I can't wait to find the purr-fect little kitty and bombard y'all with pics!
