John Mayer Performs ‘Paper Doll’ + Other Hits on ‘TODAY’
Although John Mayer was recently spotted celebrating Independence Day with ex Katy Perry, it’s been awhile since we’ve seen him on TV.
However, the charming singer made a comeback this morning (July 5) on NBC’s ‘TODAY,’ where he performed a few songs on the scenic outdoor stage and filled us in on his recovery from his vocal cord procedures.
He opened with an effortless rendition of his 2006 tune, ‘Waiting on the World to Change,’ sporting a patterned bandana and a necklace — but unusual accessories aside, he seemed to be in good spirits.
Mayer admitted to having Botox injected into his throat in order to repair his damaged vocal cords, but he was sure to mention that he was confident he would sing again.
“Thankfully, I always knew that there was gonna come a day when I’d sing again. It was just a matter of when,” he said.
He went on to say, “It’s like a gift that keeps unwrapping itself every month. I go, ‘Oh, I can sing this song now!’ So it looks as if there’s certain songs I won’t play; it’s just I can’t."
Check out the brief interview below, followed by a passionate performance of ‘Paper Doll,’ the lead single from his upcoming album, ‘Paradise Valley.’
Mayer wrapped things up at Rockefeller Plaza with ‘Queen of California,’ a feelgood tune from last year’s ‘Born and Raised.’
Be sure to pick up your very own copy of ‘Paradise Valley’ when it hits stores on Aug. 13!
