In a Thursday morning Facebook post, the Northport Police Department said they have received complaints about children, specifically students at Northport Elementary School, to hang out of the windows and rooftops of their parents' vehicles when they are being picked up and dropped off.

NPD said there are several traffic laws to consider, and anyone breaking them will find zero tolerance, effective immediately.

"Northport Police Department will begin enforcing all traffic laws associated with children riding in cars on all school campuses in Northport TODAY," they wrote in the post. "Please share this post with the parents that are allowing their kids to do this. I am sure they would rather use their hard-earned money to pay for things other than citations and fines."

Specifically, NPD said they will be enforcing laws requiring children and adults to wear safety restraints in the vehicle and also enforcing the state law requiring drivers keep their hands free behind the wheel - so put those phones down or risk a ticket that could cost more than $300.
