Police in Tuscaloosa have identified a 30-year-old woman who was fatally struck by an 18-wheeler on I-359 Wednesday morning.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said officers responded to the deadly accident around 5:20 a.m. Wednesday.

She said investigators believe the victim, Kiana Marie Armstrong, was involved in a single-vehicle crash as she exited the ramp from Interstate 20/59 onto 359 here in Tuscaloosa.

Taylor said the woman's vehicle came to rest across the middle lane of I-359, and Armstrong got out of the car but was then struck by an oncoming semitruck.

Armstrong, who lived in Tuscaloosa, was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center but did not survive her injuries.

TPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit will investigate the circumstances of her death, as they do after all serious crashes, and their involvement does not necessarily indicate suspicion of criminality.
