Another new business is set to open in Northport this week, bringing the city its first major drive-thru coffee and donuts shop.

Dunkin' is one of the biggest brands in that space and operates more than 13,200 stores across the country, including almost 70 in Alabama and three in Tuscaloosa, but none in Northport.

The City Council there set out to change that earlier this year, and voted in February to approve a tax incentives package they often refer to as "profit-sharing." The city will rebate half of the sales tax revenue generated at the new Dunkin' until they reach a cap set at $275,000.

Their Northport location is now finished in Buford Plaza at 2801 McFarland Boulevard, right next door to the also brand-new Lost Pizza Co., which opened in the former Mr. Bill's Southern Diner in July.

Signage at the new Dunkin' says the location will officially open tomorrow, Tuesday the 6th.

In other area growth, Northport's Cookie Plug - the first in the state - opened this weekend.

Council President Cristy Bobo celebrated the trio of victories and said elected officials there are optimistic that more good news is coming for Northport.

"The City of Northport is happy to see new businesses opening in our community. We appreciate the new owners who have committed to being great neighbors and to actively participating in community events," Bobo said. "Our city is looking more vibrant each day which in turn attracts more citizens to play and stay closer to home. Ultimately this provides a win for us all by generating more revenue to maintain and improve city-provided services."
