The leaders of Tuscaloosa and Auburn will once again wager charitable donations on the outcome of the Iron Bowl as the Tide takes on the Tigers in Tuscaloosa Saturday.

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and Auburn Mayor Ron Anders have kept up the tradition as long as they've been in office, and each year, they bet small donations to the other's favorite cause that their team will win.

As always, Maddox will ask Anders to donate to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative, which has benefitted from a dozen Lee County contributions thanks to the mayor's wagers dating back to agreements with former Auburn Mayor Bill Ham.

Should Auburn pull off the upset and beat Alabama, Mayor Maddox will make a $100 donation to the Mercy Medical Ministry and Clinic.

“Mayor Anders and I are happy to make a friendly wager on the Iron Bowl because it makes the outcome of the game a win-win for Tuscaloosa and Auburn,” Mayor Maddox said. “The Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative and the Mercy Medical Ministry and Clinic are important community causes, and we’re glad to do our part to recognize them. Best of luck to Mayor Anders, and Roll Tide!”

The always exciting rivalry game kicks off at 2:30 Saturday afternoon.
