Darius Miles’ Attorneys Release Statement Following Capital Murder Arrest
Attorneys for former Alabama men's basketball player Darius Miles have released a statement after he was charged with capital murder Sunday, saying he and his family are "heartbroken" over the incident.
Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said his investigators, along with University of Alabama Police and Tuscaloosa Police, responded to the Walk of Champions around 1:45 a.m. Sunday morning where Harris was suffering from a gunshot wound. She did not survive.
Investigators said she was shot after a "minor argument" with Miles and Davis early Sunday morning.
According to a statement from Miles' team of attorneys, Miles maintains his innocence in the case.
"While Darius has been accused of being involved with this tragedy, he maintains his innocence and looks forward to his day in court," the release read.
The University of Alabama athletics staff released a statement, saying Miles has "been removed from campus and is no longer a member of the Alabama men's basketball team."
Both suspects remain in the Tuscaloosa County Jail where they are being held with no bond.
