Possible Tornadoes, Damaging Winds, Rain for Portions of Alabama

As a cold front crosses our state there will be widespread showers and storms. According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, there could be “enough warm, unstable air may develop ahead of the activity to support a risk for a few strong to severe storms across the southern half of Central Alabama during the afternoon.

Friday Outlook

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said that a “front will bring rain to the state tomorrow along with a few thunderstorms. SPC maintains a "slight risk" (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms south of a line from Grove Hill to Georgiana to Dothan, with a "marginal risk" as far north as Moundville, Calera, and Wedowee.”

Possible Threats

“The main risk of strong to severe storms will be south of U.S. 84 across far South Alabama, where the air will be unstable ahead of the front tomorrow afternoon. The main threat will come from strong winds, although an isolated tornado can't be ruled out. Rain amounts will be around one inch tomorrow, with isolated heavier amounts," said Spann.

Timing

The overall time of this severe weather threat is “between Noon and 8 p.m.,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

After this front passes it will leave a colder airmass that will settle into the region over the weekend. Plus, we are expecting a freeze for early Monday with lows in the 20s in portions of Alabama.
