Three Things to Know For Your Tuesday in West Alabama
1) With jury selection complete and opening arguments finished, the prosecution is expected to begin laying out their case in the trial of Derick Brown at the Tuscaloosa Federal Courthouse this week.
Brown is charged with being a co-conspirator in the kidnapping of 3-year-old Camille “Cupcake” McKinney in Birmingham in 2019. Patrick Stallworth, also charged in the case, was found guilty earlier this year.
Both will eventually face state murder charges in the case.
2) Thursday is the last day of the "Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger" food drive.
The 29th Annual food drive began September 30. The event helps food banks in West and East Alabama. In Alabama, more than 700,000 people struggle with food insecurity, according to Feeding America.
Alabama and Auburn have combined to raise over 8 million pounds of food for Alabamians in need since the initiative started. In 2021, UA was able to raise 319,437 pounds for the West Alabama Food Bank to beat Auburn.

3) The state of the local economy will be presented at a chamber of commerce of West Alabama chamber in session dinner meeting tonight at Embassy Suites downtown.
The 7:30 p.m. event will also release the 2022 Prosperity Index which highlights critical metrics for the success of the local economy. Go to the chamber website for more information.
