Here is How You Can Help Tuscaloosa County Reading Allies
Reading Allies, an essential literacy initiative serving the Tuscaloosa City and County Schools, urgently seeks volunteers to fill critical roles. This semester, Reading Allies will serve a record number 16 Title I schools.
According to the press release, “Volunteers go through a 30-minute Reading Allies virtual training where they learn literacy best practices and how to effectively work with a striving reader. No prep work is required of volunteers.”
In a concerted effort to boost literacy, the Tuscaloosa Education Foundation's signature initiative, Reading Allies, enlists community volunteers working one-on-one with young students facing reading challenges. Targeting first through third graders, the program aims to provide crucial support to these struggling readers.
Employing a structured 10-week program, a dedicated Reading Allies Specialist tailors individual lessons for each student. These personalized lessons are delivered in 30-minute sessions by trained volunteer tutors, ensuring focused and effective learning.
To sign up, visit readingallies.org/volunteer and select Tuscaloosa as your region.
“Reading Allies began in 2017 through a collaborative effort of the University of Alabama Honors College, the Tuscaloosa Rotary Club, and the Tuscaloosa City Schools, said the press release.” “Since then, Reading Allies has worked in partnership to raise the reading levels of thousands of Tuscaloosa students.”
