Center was one of the weak points along the Crimson Tide's offensive line last year. From the season's first touchdown against Middle Tennessee State to the final play against Michigan, snapping was an issue for the Crimson Tide.

McLaughlin is no longer a Crimson Tide member; he now resides in Columbus, Ohio with Ohio State. Alabama's backup center from last season, James Brockermeyer, is now a TCU Horned Frog.

Alabama realized the center was an issue, and the best freshman center in the country entered the transfer portal. Parker Brailsford followed Kalen Deboer to Tuscaloosa from Seattle, Washington.

While he did not spend spring on the practice field with Alabama, he's still expected to be one of the top centers in the country in 2024. Parker Brailsford has been named to the Remington Trophy Watchlist, presented annually to the nation's best center in the country.

Brailsford was a finalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award last season. He finished second behind then-Alabama safety Caleb Downs for the award.

Other notable centers in the country on the award watchlist include:

Cooper Mays - Tennessee
Jake Majors - Texas
Joe Michalski - Oklahoma State
Seth McGlaughlin - Ohio State
Iapani Laloulu - Oregon

Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson won the award last season.
