SEC Standings – Week 8
The SEC season rolls on following Alabama and Tennessee's near upsets last weekend. The Crimson Tide and the Volunteers will line up this week for their annual rivalry matchup, and Georgia will head to Austin, Texas for a date with the Texas Longhorns. It's an entertaining slate of games this weekend, so take a look at how the SEC is shaping up heading into week eight!
1 - Texas A&M Aggies (5-1, 3-0)
Texas A&M was hanging tight last weekend with a bye week to enjoy their huge win over Missouri two weeks ago. The Aggies return to action this weekend with a tune-up game on the road against Mississippi State on Oct. 19.
2 - LSU Tigers (5-1, 2-0)
LSU announced that the Tigers are legit this season with a 29-26 overtime win over Ole Miss last Saturday. LSU faces a rivalry game this weekend on the road against the Arkansas Razorbacks, a team that has been shockingly better than anticipated this season.
3 - Texas Longhorns (6-0, 2-0)
The Longhorns mopped the floor with the Oklahoma Sooners, 34-3, in Quinn Ewers' first action since injuring his oblique against UTSA in week three. Texas hosts a huge conference matchup this weekend, with the Georgia Bulldogs coming to town.
4 - Georgia Bulldogs (5-1, 2-1)
Georgia took care of its business in a tighter game than most expected against Mississippi State, defeating the other Bulldogs 41-31. Georgia has another big road game this weekend, heading to Austin for a date with the SEC-favorite Texas Longhorns.
5 - Alabama Crimson Tide (5-1, 2-1)
The Crimson Tide narrowly escaped the South Carolina Gamecocks at home, 27-25. It wasn't the tune-up game Alabama wanted, but nonetheless, the Crimson Tide travels to Knoxville, Tennessee for a date with the Tennessee Volunteers this weekend.
6 - Arkansas Razorbacks (4-2, 2-1)
Arkansas had a bye week to repair the goalposts following a week six upset over Tennessee, 19-14. The Razorbacks return to action this weekend in a rivalry game with a high-flying LSU football team.
7 - Tennessee Volunteers (5-1, 2-1)
Tennessee needed overtime to defeat its rival, Florida, 23-17. It wasn't what the Volunteers wanted with a powerful Alabama offense coming into town this weekend, but the Third Saturday in October is still one of the most anticipated matchups of the weekend.
8 - Vanderbilt Commodores (4-2, 2-1)
The Commodores showed they meant business with a 20-13 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats last weekend. Hopefully, Vanderbilt repaired the goalposts after their upset of Alabama, with the Commodores returning home this weekend against Ball State. Vanderbilt is hoping for a tune-up game, hosting top-ranked Texas the week after.
9 - Missouri Tigers (5-1, 1-1)
It was odd seeing Missouri head to UMass for a road game, regardless, Missouri handled what it needed to in a 45-3 victory. The Tigers will return to the Southeast to host the Auburn Tigers this weekend.
10 - Florida Gators (3-3, 1-2)
The Gators had a chance to potentially save their season, and Billy Napier's job, if they pulled off the upset of the Tennessee Volunteers. Instead, Florida lost 23-17 in overtime. The future is not as bleak as some might think, despite losing starting quarterback Graham Mertz for the season. DJ Lagway made some "grown-up" plays in a hostile environment, but it may be too little too late. Florida will host Kentucky this weekend before the gauntlet begins.
11 - Ole Miss (4-2, 1-2)
Ole Miss fell victim to Death Valley and LSU, losing to the Tigers in overtime 29-26. Ole Miss has its back against the wall for the remainder of the season, but they have a bye week to figure things out before hosting Oklahoma.
12 - Oklahoma Sooners (4-2, 1-2)
Oklahoma got destroyed by the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry 34-3. Oklahoma hosts South Carolina this weekend, as they continue through their first season in the SEC.
13 - Kentucky Wildcats (3-3, 1-3)
The Wildcats were stunned by Vanderbilt at home, losing 20-13 to the Commodores. Kentucky will travel to Gainesville, Florida for a date with the Gators this weekend.
14 - South Carolina Gamecocks (3-3, 1-3)
The Gamecocks threatened the Alabama Crimson Tide but ultimately fell short 27-25 last Saturday. South Carolina will travel to Norman, Oklahoma for a matchup with the Sooners this Saturday.
15 - Auburn Tigers (2-4, 0-3)
Auburn had a week off to recover from a beatdown by the Georgia Bulldogs two weeks ago. The Tigers travel to Columbia, Missouri, to take on the Missouri Tigers this Saturday.
16 - Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-5, 0-3)
Mississippi State was trounced by the Georgia Bulldogs 41-31 last Saturday. Mississippi State will return home to Starkville this weekend, taking on the Texas A&M Aggies.
If the season ended today, the SEC Championship would be played in Atlanta, Georgia, between the Texas A&M Aggies and the LSU Tigers.
