Open Practice Day 4: OL Report

Alabama Football continues to work towards the start of the regular season on August 31 against Western Kentucky. With 27 days until the start of Alabama football, the Crimson Tide will soon begin to shore up some position battles among the team.

One competition that we knew of was both starting tackle positions along the offensive line. It was presumed Kadyn Proctor would re-claim his starting left tackle spot from last season, but he had some competition, with Elijah Pritchett starting camp as the starter at left tackle. Pritchett had been the starter at left tackle during spring football and Alabama's annual A-Day scrimmage.

That battle appears to be heating up, with Alabama-turned-Iowa-turned-Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor earning reps with the first-team offensive line at left tackle during Sunday's viewing period.

The starting offensive line from left to right was Proctor, Booker, Brailsford, Roberts, and Formby during the media viewing portion. Elijah Pritchett returned to the second-team unit, where he is now expected to compete with Wilkin Formby for the starting right tackle spot.

Formby and Proctor room together according to offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic. In media interviews on Saturday, Coach Kap also said both players were working out together and watching extra film with one another after practice and in the dorm.

The rest of the offensive line got some work in as well, with the interior OL working with Coach Kap on snapping and gap scheme fits.

The intensity around practice can still be felt, with co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Colin Hitchsler harping on young defensive backs about proper technique, and having Keon Sabb and Malachi Moore show them how to properly run the drill.
