Alabama's defense struggled on Saturday against South Florida as the Bulls took advantage of the aggressiveness of Kane Wommack's 4-2-5 defense.

South Florida quarterback Byrum Brown was able to create plays using his legs to the tune of 309 total yards of offense. Brown himself accounted for 208 of those yards, with 108 coming on the ground from the dual-threat quarterback.

Alabama held when it mattered most, though, stopping USF on three of its four redzone trips. Tim Keenan III led Alabama's defense in tackles for loss and sacks. It was the determining factor that helped Alabama secure a 42-16 win that felt much closer than the final score indicated.

Alabama had four sacks and seven tackles for loss on Saturday. Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack removed his Crimson Colored glasses when evaluating the Tide's defensive performance.

It’s not OK to give up touchdowns in the red zone,” said Wommack.

Wommack also said it was "unacceptable" and he was "extremely disappointed" in Alabama's lack of turnovers forced against South Florida on Saturday. The Crimson Tide generated no turnovers in the game.

Wommack didn't want to hear any excuses. While his defense shut down USF through the air, with just 103 yards passing from Brown, they relinquished 206 yards on the ground, with many of those yards coming from Brown on designed quarterback runs or scrambles.

Wommack's defense will look to increase the turnover totals on Saturday when the Crimson Tide travel to Madison, Wisconsin for an 11:00 a.m. CT matchup with the Badgers from the Big 10. You can listen to the game on the free Tide 100.9 app.
