“Hey Coach” & the Kalen DeBoer Show Ahead of South Carolina
Following a 40-35 loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores, Alabama's first loss to Vanderbilt in 40 years, Kalen DeBoer took the stage at Baumhower's Victory Grille to discuss with Chris Stewart and turn the page to the South Carolina Gamecocks.
DeBoer talked about Alabama's loss to Vanderbilt to open the show:
"The sun came up. We went to work. Sunday, we talk about that being a day where we really got down to the truths -- win or lose -- and we do a good job of always trying to make sure we have the answers."
"I've been extremely proud of the way the guys came with that mindset, came with that attitude. They've handled it great on Sunday. Tuesday, Wednesday practices have been full of energy. Guys just focusing on getting better."
DeBoer continued, "I felt like we had a good plan" against Vanderbilt. DeBoer said it always comes down to "execution. "I thought our staff did a nice job." But says of execution: "When I say that, it's about all of us, including myself."
"You got to make sure you don't overreact," DeBoer said. "You need to see that look again against that defensive call or offensive call we're running, and the guys get another rep at it, because it is something new or different we hadn't seen on film."
The first caller for "Hey Coach & the Kalen DeBoer Show" was, as always, Peewee from Grand Bay. Peewee let Coach DeBoer know "the fashion police" were after him following his attire during Alabama's loss to Vanderbilt.
DeBoer was also asked about the elimination of the National Letter Intent, a ruling decided on by the NCAA on Wednesday morning, "Really won't" affect recruiting. "A lot of it will still be as we've done in the past. There will be other ways to bind prospects who sign with Alabama, and vice versa. I don't see it being something, at least with the tweaks they're going to make -- there's an SEC agreement, there's other things we have the guys will sign that will be binding."
On the loss to Vanderbilt, "Our guys fought. They battled. I can promise you that. ... Our guys gave everything they had." DeBoer also said it was an "uphill battle" following a 13-0 deficit, "unfortunately, the clock ran out at the end."
Alabama and South Carolina will kickoff on Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, October 12, at 11:00 a.m. CT. You can listen to the Alabama radio broadcast on Tide 100.9 and the free Tide 100.9 app.
