Deboer: “He’s Got Big Play Capability…”
The First Half
Kalen Deboer in his debut game at Alabama since becoming the head coach for the Crimson Tide. An outstanding first half of football for this Alabama team as they enter half-time up 42-0 on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. This Alabama defense, absolutely destructive to the offense hasn’t let T.J Finley get any easy yards
as defensive back, Keon Sabb has two interceptions so far in the first half with the second interception almost being returned for six points.
Milroe scored Alabama's first touchdown on a rush before hitting wide receiver Kendrick law on an escape pass for a second Alabama touchdown down putting the Crimson Tide up 14-0.
17-year-old Ryan Williams, a native of the state of Alabama, is no stranger to Tuscaloosa as he beat out the Hillcrest Patriots in the Playoffs last year with the Saraland Spartans, and caught his first collegiate touchdown from Jalen Milroe. Williams took the catch for an 84-yard touchdown putting the Crimson Tide up 21-0.
Later in the second half, the snap to Milroe was over his head, leading to a Western Kentucky fumble recovery.
Alabama's defense once again stuffs the Hilltoppers forcing a punting situation for Western Kentucky.
Two more touchdowns from the running back core Jam Miller and Justice Haynes. Miller on a 39-yard run and Haynes on an 85-yard run.
Williams, the standout freshman for the Crimson Tide is not done yet in the first half as Milroe hits Ryan Williams once again for a 55-yard touchdown.
Going into the second half Alabama is up 42-0.
Deboer on Ryan Williams
In the post-game interview, Coach Deboer made a statement when asked about freshman Ryan Williams's two touchdowns. " He's got that big play capability as you saw, and he's done a lot of that in practice. We were excited to see him get out there, that 3rd down, down the sideline, great read by Jalen with the coverage he was getting. We anticipated a possible route down the sideline in a situation like that.' Deboer continued with "It was really cool to see those guys execute; Ryan hauling the ball and finishing. Coming across the middle on the second touchdown. He's really focused, and it doesn't feel like the game is too fast for him so it's impressive a guy his age is going out there doing the things he's doing..."
