CFP Title Game Future Site Revealed
The College Football Playoffs are the newest playoff method in collegiate athletics, and they recently have been revamped to increase from four teams to 12.
This provides more teams a chance to compete for a national championship, as well as more high-level football for fans of college football. Power Four teams that win their conference championship will earn an automatic bid to the CFP, in addition to the highest-ranked Group of Five champion. The other seven teams will be at-large bids, likely consisting of teams who played in but lost their conference championships.
For Alabama, it takes the pressure off of the regular season, with potentially a two or even three-loss SEC powerhouse able to earn a playoff bid. With Alabama's schedule, the Crimson Tide will have some leeway against opponents in the fall.
More teams and more games mean the College Football Playoff National Championship will be played later in the athletic calendar, with the game being pushed back from the first or second Monday in January to almost the end of the month. In 2025, the national championship will be played on January 20th in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2026, the championship game is set to be played on January 19 in Miami, Florida.
According to a report by Brett McMurphy of Action Network, the College Football Playoff will be hosted by Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2027.
McMurphy also said the CFP is likely to be hosted by New Orleans in 2028, Dallas in 2029, and back to Miami in 2030.
If those three sites fall through, Houston, Phoenix, and Tampa are backup options to host the College Football Playoff.
Dallas hosted the first-ever College Football Playoff National Championship in 2015, Phoenix hosted the second in 2016, and Tampa hosted the third in 2017.
Atlanta hosted in 2018 and will host again in 2025.
Dallas, Phoenix, Miami, New Orleans, Santa Clara, Indianapolis, and Los Angeles have all hosted once.
