Brandon Miller Named All-Rookie
Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide are building a basketball powerhouse in Tuscaloosa, and the list of achievements for Oats's draft picks got a little longer on Monday.
Brandon Miller, who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, was announced to the NBA's All-Rookie team on Monday.
The entire First Team, according to the NBA:
Victor Wembanyama - San Antonio Spurs
Chet Holmgren - Oklahoma City Thunder
Brandon Miller - Charlotte Hornets
Jaime Jaquez Jr. - Miami Heat
Brandin Podziemski - Goldn State Warriors
During his rookie season, Brandon Miller played in 74 games, starting 68 of them, and totaled 17.3 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, and 2.4 assists per game. He shot 44% from the field and 37.3% from three in the 2023-2024 season.
When Miller was drafted to Charlotte, the reaction from fans was less than ideal. Some fans booed the pick, and even the Hornets mascot hung his head when Miller was announced as the pick.
Miller was an All-SEC player during his time at Alabama, totaling 18.8 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game, and 2.1 assists per game. Miller shot 38.4% from three and 43% from the field during his time at Alabama. He also led the Crimson Tide to the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and an SEC regular season and tournament championship. Miller was also a first-team All-American at Alabama.
Miller is the first all-rookie performer from Alabama since Collin Seton (2018) and the first to earn First-Team honors since Antonio McDyess in 1996).
Are Hornets fans still upset about the pick?
