Alabama Women’s Basketball Defeats Troy 94-71
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- Women's basketball triumphed Troy on Sunday, the Crimson Tide achieved their third consecutive win with 80 or more points to start the 2024-25 season. The win also brought coach Kristy Curry her 200th win at Alabama, joining former coach Rick Moody as the only coaches to earn the achievement in program history.
The Crimson Tide set an aggressive tone from the outset, winning the tip-ff and launching into a 16-2 run within the first four minutes. By the end of the first quarter, the Crimson Tide held a solid 25-17 lead, having forced five turnovers and drained five 3-pointers. The team maintained control throughout the first half added by 11 assists on 17 made baskets and 14 points on fast breaks. Aaliyah Nye and Sarah Ashlee Barker led the scoring in the first half, contributing 26 of the team's 50 points, with Nye hitting four 3-pointers, including three in the opening quarter.
The Crimson Tide went into halftime with a 50-33 advantage, thanks to Nye's buzzer-beater 3-pointer. The third quarter capped off with a 2-pointer from Zaay Green, who then added two free throws, establishing herself as a key player for the third quarter. Karly Weathers hit a massive 3-pointer, marking the start of her highest-scoring game of the season. The Crimson Tide continued to build on their momentum, with Nye adding more points before the quarter with a pair of free throws
In the fourth quarter, the Crimson Tide's offense surged, scoring 26 points while holding the Trojans to 19, resulting in a commanding 94-71 victory. The Crimson Tide capitalized on 19 turnovers, recording non steals and achieving a 29-7 edge in points off those turnovers. This win showcased a collective team effort, marked by aggressive play, multiple players reaching double digits in scoring, and several standout performances. Notably, the Crimson Tide managed to surpass 80 points even with Barker sidelined for a quarter and a half due to soreness.
The Crimson Tide will be back at Coleman on Wednesday to take on Norfolk State at 6:00 p.m.
