Alabama Softball’s Season Comes to an End At the Hands of Florida
Less than 24 hours after Alabama baseball saw its season come to a close against Stetson, Alabama softball faced a similar fate in an elimination game against the Florida Gators. Alabama ended its season in a 6-4 loss to the Florida Gators.
The Crimson Tide took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but it was not enough, as Florida exploded offensively in the sixth inning to give the Gators a 6-2 lead over Alabama.
The Tide had a chance to tie, with bases loaded and the Super Regional grand slammer Riley Valentine at the plate. She hit an RBI single, with Kali Heivilin following suit to cut Alabama's deficit to two.
Alabama saw three pitchers take to the circle today. Kayla Beaver got the start, striking out none and allowing six hits and two runs. Jocelyn Briski came in at the top of the fifth inning, striking out one while allowing three hits and one run.
In the sixth inning, Alea Johnson entered to pitch for Alabama. She finished the game for the Crimson Tide, striking out two while allowing one hit and three runs thanks to a three-run home run. She rebounded well in the top of the seventh inning, however, going one-two-three in the Gators' lineup.
Alabama could not capitalize in the bottom of the seventh, however. The Crimson Tide went three and out in the bottom of the seventh to end their season.
Alabama ends its season 39-20 overall, with a 10-14 record in SEC play.
The Tide made an improbable run in the Women's College World Series, going undefeated in the Tuscaloosa Regional and winning two games in the Knoxville Super Regional after what was considered a disappointing regular season by Alabama's standards.
