Alabama Lands Four on Lombardi Watch List
Alabama Football continues to rack up the preseason recognition, with four more players named to an award watchlist.
The Lombardi Award is presented annually to the top lineman in college football, regardless of offense or defense. Alabama \'s interior offensive line is being recognized for the award, as well as a defender.
Tyler Booker, Parker Brailsford, Jaeden Roberts, and Deontae Lawson were named to the Lombardi Award watchlist.
We know what Tyler Booker is. He's the veteran starter along the offensive line and the most likely candidate to extend Alabama's streak of first-rounders in the NFL draft. He's one of the leaders along the offensive side of the football and his play will help determine Alabama's season. Booker was named a preseason All-American earlier in the week.
Parker Brailsford was a finalist for the Shaun Alexander Award last season, presented to the best freshman player in college football. He lost the award to Caleb Downs. Brailsford started every game for Washington last season, transitioning to center after the first game of the year. He transferred to Alabama after Kalen DeBoer was hired by athletic director Greg Byrne. After missing time in spring due to personal reasons, Brailsford has returned to Alabama and took the starting center position by storm. He's also been named to the Remington Award Watchlist and was named a preseason All-American.
Jaeden Roberts began last season "buried" on the depth chart. By midseason, every Alabama fan knew who he was after he took ahold of the starting right guard position. He hasn't received as much preseason recognition as his counterpart, Tyler Booker, but if Alabama is to have success in 2024, Roberts will be a key contributor for the Tide.
Deontae Lawson was the name that may have piqued the interest of Alabama fans. Lawson is the returning starting Mike linebacker for Alabama, lining up in the middle of the defense, and will be the defender with the green dot for the Crimson Tide. Why is he on a watchlist for linemen? He isn't the only one, with Oklahoma standout Danny Stutsman also featured on the list. Lawson could have entered the 2024 NFL draft last season but returned to Tuscaloosa for his fourth season. Lawson totaled 67 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and four pass breakups in 2023. He was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award last season.
Other notable players on the watchlist include:
Landon Jackson, DE - Arkansas
Will Campbell, OT - LSU
Harold Perkins Jr., LOLB - LSU
James Pearce Jr., DE - Tennessee
Kelvin Banks Jr., OT - Texas
Shemar Turner, DT - Texas A&M
