Playoffs!

It’s that time of year, folks. The AHSAA postseason began in earnest in Alabama Friday night, and here’s a look at who survived and advanced, and who didn’t. Let’s start with those who won in round one:

Hillcrest dominated Calera 38-0 behind sophomore quarterback Bryson Kimbrough. The unbeaten Pats will host Saraland next week.

ACA held off Munford and had to rally late. The final was 16-13 and that group of Patriots will host a tough Andalusia squad next.

Pickens County defeated Wadley 34-15.

It was Aliceville all over West End of Walnut Grove 62-13.

Gordo dominated Ohatchee 50-6 behind quarterback Brax Garrison.

Tuscaloosa Academy won its first ever AHSAA playoff game despite trailing early 14-0 to Locust Fork. The Knights rallied to win 42-28.

Southern Academy advanced in private school ball with a 21-14 win over South Choctaw.

Linden crushed Autaugaville 34-0.

Demopolis moved on by beating Elmore County 48-36.

Scores involving teams in our area who saw their seasons come to a close were:

Jacksonville scored with 2.5 seconds left to beat Bibb County 35-28.

Etowah pulled away late to eliminate Northside 42-21.

Pelham pounded Northridge 44-14.

Handley smothered West Blocton 46-6.

Geraldine shocked Winfield 34-8.

Sylvania dispatched Fayette County 35-6.

Anniston shut out Sipsey Valley 52-0.

In an eight-man football final, Cornerstone Christian beat North River Christian 72-51.

Also in eight-man football, Tuscaloosa Christian finished 5-4 after a loss in Meridian last weekend to Russell Christian 70-46.

6A Playoffs: Calera at Hillcrest

Hillcrest hosted Calera Friday night for the first round of the 6A playoffs. Sophomore quarterback Bryson Kimbrough led the Patriots to a 38-0 victory in his first high school start.
