The Hillcrest High School Patriots' head football coach, Sam Adams, has officially announced he will be leaving his position to start a new chapter as Oxford High School's head coach.

Adams made the announcement Monday, joined by his wife Kimberly and son Whit, and later on social media.

He ended this season with a 9-3 record. A highlight of his latest season included the Patriots' last-minute 34-28 victory over Wetumpka. Tide 100.9's Joe Gaither reported that the team used 10 laterals on a play called "Bronco" to score a touchdown with less than three seconds left in the game.

Adams replaced previous head coach Scott Martin at the Class 6A school back in 2014 and leaves with a 56-28 record. He led his team to the playoffs six of his seven years and won two back-to-back region championships in 2016 and 2017.

During his tenure, he saw several prominent players that went on to play for large colleges and universities. Brian Robinson is a senior running back for the University of Alabama, and Keith Holcombe is a graduated linebacker for the Crimson Tide.

Other notable players include Ole Miss linebacker Jaquez Jones and current junior quarterback for the Patriots, Ethan Crawford, who is expected to have a strong 2021-22 season.

Now, the Hillcrest Patriots will start another scramble to find its next head coach to lead the team into, hopefully, another wild season.
