HBO ‘The Night Of’ Trailer Wants to Tell You the Most Important Thing You’ll Ever Hear
Flying in under the radar for a July premiere, HBO’s John Turturro-led miniseres The Night Of (formerly Criminal Justice) at last has a full trailer, looking more and more like the True Detective Season 3 we might never get. See for yourself, as the one-time Gandolfini-led series finally gets its moment in the sun darkness with some stylistic new footage.
Now set for a July 10 premiere, the eight-episode John Turturro series features among its cast The Wire star Michael K. Williams, Glenne Headly, Ben Shenkman, Sopranos alum Max Casella, Amara Karan, Sofia Black-D’Elia. Paul Sparks, Afton Williamson, Paulo Costanzo, Ned Eisenberg, Mohammad Bakri, Nabil Elouahabi, Ashley Thomas, Glenn Fleshler, Chip Zien, Riz Ahmed, Bill Camp, Payman Maadi and Poorna Jagannathan.
Adapted from an award-winning 2008 BBC series, the Americanized Criminal Justice was to feature Gandolfini as Jack Stone, a “downtrodden jailhouse attorney who frequents police stations for clients.” In his search, the character encounters Naz, an American-born Pakistani with no memory of his accused crime of stabbing to death a young woman he met. So reads the logline:
The Night Of delves into the intricacies of a complex New York City murder case with cultural and political overtones. The story examines the police investigation, the legal proceedings, the criminal justice system and the feral purgatory of Rikers Island, where the accused await trial for felony crimes.
Stay tuned for more, but is The Night Of worth much more attention than HBO seems to be giving?
